July 12, 2016

South Bend, IN - To finish off a four-game series at Four Winds Field, the Bowling Green Hot Rods avenged a couple tough losses with a 10-3 victory over the South Bend Cubs on Monday night.

A day after surrendering a four-run lead, the Hot Rods starting things off early in the first inning against starter Ryan Kellogg (L, 3-6) and never looked back.

To begin the game, shortstop Jake Cronenworth ripped his team-leading sixth triple into right field. During the next at-bat, Cronenworth scored on a sacrifice fly from outfielder Zacrey Law to score the first run of the game.

Against Kellogg, the Hot Rods also got a RBI single by designated hitter Brandon Lowe in the fifth inning to make the score 2-0.

For Lowe, the single increased his hit streak to 13 games.

With Kellogg out of the game after the fifth inning, the Bowling Green bats greeted Greyfer Eregua into the game by batting around in the sixth inning, scoring six runs on six hits to put the game out of reach.

To lead the surge, the Hot Rods got a two-run triple from Michael Russell and a two-run single by Kewby Meyer. Bowling Green also got a pair of RBI singles from Law and second basemen Peter Maris. Five of the six runs came with two outs in the innings.

Finishing up the impressive offensive output, the Hot Rods scored their final two runs of the game in the eighth on another two-run single by Meyer, who finished the game with four runs batted in.

On the pitching side, the run support was plenty for Hot Rods starter Jose Mujica (W, 5-3), who didn't give up a run in his second straight start. Over six innings of work, Mujica gave up just two hits while walking three batters.

In his last two starts combined, the Rays #24 prospect per MLB Pipeline has given up just four hits in 13 scoreless innings.

South Bend scored their only two runs of the game in the seventh inning on a pair of bases loaded walks.

Offensively, the Hot Rods have now scored 10 or more runs in 12 different games this year.

Bowling Green will start off a seven-game homestand at Bowling Green Ballpark on Wednesday. They will welcome the Wisconsin TimberRattlers to town.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:35.
