I's rally to take game one of doubleheader
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (July 17, 2016) - Grant Massey led the Kannapolis Intimidators to a 3-2 win over the Greensboro Grasshoppers in game one of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. Massey paced the offense with a 3-for-4 day at the plate with a double and two RBI.
In the top of the first inning, Greensboro pushed across the first run of the day on a Josh Naylor RBI double to left.
Intimidators starter, Luis Martinez managed to work around Grasshopper rallies in the second, fourth and fifth innings. Over his five innings of work, the righty allowed one run on two hits while walking four and striking out three.
It took until the bottom of the fifth before Kannapolis managed to answer Greensboro's run. Max Dutto started the rally with the first triple off his professional career high off the wall in right. Two pitches later, Tyler Sullivan scored Dutto on a sacrifice fly to right that tied the game at one.
The Grasshoppers answered back with a run in the top of the sixth. Intimidators reliever Ian Hamilton surrendered a two out RBI single to Aaron Blanton reclaiming Greensboro's one run lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, Kannapolis claimed their first lead of the day. Antonio Rodriguez and Micker Adolfo reached against Grasshopper's reliever Kyler Keller (2-1) to start the inning and scored on Grant Massey's third hit of the day, a two out, two-RBI single to center.
Hamiton (1-0) worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning to record his first win of his professional career.
The Intimidators play game two of the doubleheader at 5:05 p.m. RHP Jimmy Lambert will take the ball for Kannapolis (0-1, 0.00) and will face Greensboro's RH LJ Brewster (4-2, 5.13).
