Lambert fans three in second Class A start
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (July 17, 2016) - Jimmy Lambert struck out three over 3.0 innings in his second Class A start, but the Grasshoppers rallied to beat the Intimidators, 5-4 in 7 innings, on Sunday evening in the second game of a doubleheader at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. Kannapolis (13-10 Second Half, 37-56) fell a game behind the first place Grasshoppers in the South Atlantic League Northern Division Second Half standings.
The Intimidators built a 4-0 lead in the first inning, but Greensboro's John Silviano's big night at the plate sparked a comeback to help the Hoppers rally for the win. Silviano belted a solo home run (5) in the second inning to put Greensboro on the board and added his first of two RBI-doubles in the fourth inning to cut the Kannapolis lead to 4-2.
Taylore Cherry took over on the mound in the fifth inning with a 2-run lead but gave up back-to-back doubles by Giovanny Alfonzo and Justin Twine to open the inning, cutting the Kannapolis lead to one, 4-3. After an Isael Soto base hit put men on the corners, Twine scored the tying run on a wild pitch, and Silviano doubled to cash Soto for a 5-4 Grasshoppers lead.
Cherry (1-4) took the loss, allowing three runs in 1.0 inning of work. Greensboro's Ben Meyer (4-4) spun 2.0 perfect innings for the win. C.J. Robinson tossed a scoreless seventh for his league-lead-tying 18th save.
Kannapolis took advantage of a Greensboro error to build a 4-0 lead in the first inning. With bases loaded and one out, Grant Massey grounded a ball to Alfonzo at second base, but the Hoppers infielder booted the ball, allowing two runs to score. Antonio Rodriguez followed with a sacrifice-fly for a 3-0 lead. Micker Adolfo then lifted a ball into shallow left field where shortstop Anfernee Seymour tripped over left fielder Kyle Barrett as both players attempted to make the catch. The ball dropped for an RBI-double.
