Blue Jays sweep double-header, series
In game one, the Miracle trailed 3-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. Blue Jay starter Chad Jenkins cruised through the first six innings, allowing only four hits and setting down 11 in a row from the last out of the second to the first out of the sixth.
Fort Myers finally touched up Jenkins in the final frame. After a single to lead off the inning by Nate Hanson and a walk to Anderson Hidalgo, left fielder Ramon Santana doubled down the line in left to plate a run. Jenkins was relieved by closer Wes Etheridge with runners on second and third with no outs.
Facing Josemil Pinto, Etheridge induced a RBI groundout that cut the Blue Jay lead to 3-2. Etheridge then retired pinch-hitter Nick Romero and Jhonathan Goncalves on groundouts to third base to pick up his 10th save in as many opportunities and preserve the win for Jenkins.
Dunedin jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the fourth inning with a RBI double by Brad Glenn and a run-scoring triple from Brian Van Kirk off starter Andrew Albers. The Blue Jays tacked on the eventual game-winning run in the sixth inning with Shooter Hunt pitching with a sacrifice RBI from shortstop Ryan Goins.
Jenkins improved to 1-4 with the win and Albers (2-1) was saddled with his first loss of the 2011 campaign.
In the second game, Fort Myers fell behind 5-0 after the Blue Jays put up three runs in the third inning and two in the fourth after a two-run homer from catcher Sean Ochinko. Dunedin added two more runs of insurance in the sixth.
Fort Myers scored its only run in the bottom of the sixth on a RBI single from Nate Hanson. The Miracle had eight hit on the evening.
Blue Jay ace Asher Wojciechowski scattered six hits through six innings and gave up just one run while striking out seven. Improving to 3-2, Wojciechowski continued a string of impressive pitching performances from the Dunedin starting rotation.
Tom Stuifbergen (0-3) started for the Miracle and lasted three innings, giving up three unearned runs on three hits.
Fort Myers (19-16) now travels to Daytona (25-10) for a four game series with the Cubs. First pitch for Saturday is scheduled at 7:05 p.m. Tune in to www.miraclebaseball.com for play-by-play action with "The Voice of the Miracle" Alex Margulies.
