Yankees Shutout IronBirds, 3-0
ABERDEEN, Md.-The IronBirds were shutout Monday night in game two of their series versus Staten Island. This was the third time that Aberdeen had gone a game without scoring a run this season.
PITCHING DUEL: Keegan Akin, the Orioles 2016 second round pick, took the mound for his second professional start. After only working two innings and allowing one run in his first outing, Akin pitched three scoreless innings on Tuesday night. Yankees starter, Adonis Rosa, went six and two-thirds innings, letting up no runs, while striking out five. Neither team was able to plate a run for the first five innings.
TIE BROKEN: After only facing six batters in his first two innings of work, IronBirds reliever, Andrew Elliott, finally let up the game's first runs in the top of the sixth. After Danienger Perez singled for Staten Island to start the inning, he was able to advance to third on a wild pick off throw. Dom Thompson-Williams would drive in Perez on a sacrifice fly to put the Yankees on the board. The scoring continued when Michael Ford hit a two-run shot to give his team the three-run advantage. This was the second home run that Elliott had given up this season.
MISSED OPPORTUNITY: The IronBirds biggest threat to break through offensively occurred in the seventh inning when a single, error and a walk loaded the bases for shortstop, Chris Clare, with two outs. Relief pitcher, Brian Trieglaff, struck out Clare on a breaking ball to end the rally.
