Paddack Impress on Mound for TinCaps
FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The TinCaps lost to the Cedar Rapids Kernels (Minnesota Twins), 3-2, in 10 innings on Monday night at Parkview Field.
With the score tied, 2-2, in the top of the 10th inning, Luis Arraez led off for the Kernels (15-10, 51-43) with a triple into the right-field corner against David Bednar (L, 0-1). Arraez scored on the play as the relay throw sailed into the stands behind third base. Despite taking the loss, Bednar had pitched a scoreless eighth inning and ninth, and retired one batter in the 10th before exiting.
Fort Wayne (9-16, 45-50) initially led 1-0 thanks to an RBI single from shortstop Ruddy Giron in the second.
The TinCaps carried their lead into the sixth inning on the heels of a fine pitching performance from starter Chris Paddack, who struck out eight over five scoreless innings.
However, against José Castillo in the sixth, the Kernels scored twice to take a 2-1 advantage. Fort Wayne tied it in the home half of the frame on a Brad Zunica RBI double.
Andrew Velazquez (W, 1-0) earned the victory for the visitors with three scoreless innings. Williams Ramirez (S, 4) quelled a potential TinCaps rally in the 10th.
All teams in the Midwest League are off on Tuesday.
