Cardinals Return Home in Walk-Off Fashion
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.- On Tuesday the Cardinals played their first home game in the past seven days as they took on the streaking Greeneville Astros. After a rough road trip for Johnson City, the Cardinals and Astros came into this matchup tied for first place atop the Appalachian League West. Greeneville also came rolling in on and eight-game winning streak.
In the top of the first inning Greeneville jumped out on top as Bryan De La Cruz doubled in the games first run. The Cardinals then battled back in the bottom half of the first inning as Matt Fiedler doubled in Allen Cordoba knotting the game up at one-a-piece. Johnson City would then play catch up two more times as they knotted things up at 2-2 in the bottom of the third when Matt Fiedler drove in his second run of the contest. In the seventh the Cardinals made it a trio of comebacks when Yariel Gonzales hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Caleb Lopes. The back end of the bullpen for the Cardinals was dominant as Julio Mateo, Leland Tilley and Estarlin Arias locked down the last three innings of the game, setting Johnson City up for a walk-off in the ninth. DeAndre Asbury-Heath lead off the ninth with a double down the third base line, setting the stage for Allen Cordoba who drove the ball back up the middle scoring DeAndre for the Cardinals second walk-off of the season.
With the victory the Cardinals snap the Astros eight-game winning streak, and take back sole possession of first place. Tomorrow Johnson City and Greeneville will play game number two from TVA Credit Union Ballpark. The first pitch for the all you can eat game on Wednesday is scheduled for 7 PM.
