Soroka Strong, Riley and Herbert Go Yard, Rome Wins 11-2
- Rome defeated Lexington 11-2 Wednesday evening at State Mutual Stadium behind the strong starting pitching of Mike Soroka. Austin Riley helped provide the offense with his eighth home run of the season and three RBI in the game while Lucas Herbert blasted his fifth round tripper and drove in four on the night.
In the first inning, Rome jumped to a 1-0 lead on Riley's sacrifice fly RBI. The Braves made it 3-0 in the fourth on Tyler Neslony's run scoring single and Justin Ellison's sacrifice fly plating a run. Lexington scored a run in the fifth when Amalani Fukofuka grounded into a double play to make the score 3-1. Rome however bounced back with two runs in the bottom of the inning on Riley's (8) two run blast to the highest part of the centerfield wall for the 5-1 score. The Legends scored a run in the seventh but Rome posted six runs in the bottom of the inning for the 11-2 score highlighted by Herbert's (5) three run shot to left. The Braves bullpen held Lexington in check the rest of the way to preserve the win.
Soroka (3-9) earns the victory going seven innings allowing four hits and two runs while A.J. Puckett
(0-1) is hit with the loss.
