Fowler Completes Rehab, Patton Optioned to Iowa

July 23, 2016

DES MOINES - Chicago Cubs outfielder Dexter Fowler returned to Chicago's lineup last night after completing a successful rehab stint with Triple-A Iowa, while outfielder Jorge Soler's rehab assignment was transferred to Double-A Tennessee. Right-handed reliever Spencer Patton was optioned to Iowa and righty Miguel Mejia was placed on the disabled list.

Fowler, who had been on the disabled list since June 20 (retro to June 19), was batting .290 for the Cubs with seven homers, 28 RBI and six stolen bases prior to his injury. He appeared in both ends of a double-header for the I-Cubs on July 20 and went 1-for-6 with one double, one walk and two runs scored.

Patton was enjoying his second stint in Chicago this season, but saw limited playing time after his June 21 call-up. Appearing in eight games, Patton collected a 4.46 ERA (6ER/12.1IP) with six walks and 12 strikeouts. Patton served as Iowa's closer prior to his promotion, posting a 1.04 ERA with eight saves in 26 appearances with the I-Cubs.

Soler was transferred to Tennessee after playing in two rehab games for Iowa. He went 1-for-7 with five strikeouts.

Reliever Mejia was placed on the disabled list today. He began the season with Iowa, but racked up a 6.57 ERA in his first 10 appearances with the I-Cubs, causing a demoting to Tennessee on May 12. He posted a 1-2 record with a 2.70 ERA in eight games with the Smokies and returned to Iowa's roster on June 9. Overall, Mejia is 1-1 with a 6.82 ERA through 21 games with the I-Cubs this season.

Iowa and Memphis play a double-header tonight at AutoZone Park beginning at 5:05 CT. Catch the action on AM 940 or at www.iowacubs.com
