Missions Win Streak Ends at 5

May 15, 2011
MIDLAND-The Missions longest winning streak in two years came to a resounding end Friday night as they suffered their worst defeat in two years and allowed a season-high in runs in front of 4,656 at Citibank Ballpark.

San Antonio rode a six-game winning streak and a league-best 23-10 record into the game but starter Aaron Breit had a forgettable outing, allowing four runs in the first inning. Breit was chased after just three innings after allowing five runs, seven hits, and five walks.

The Missions hadn't lost a game by 10 runs or more since dropping a 12-0 decision against the Arkansas Travelers in August, 2009. The club's most lopsided loss this season had been by five runs on two occasions. It was the second time San Antonio was shutout this season.

Midland starter Shawn Haviland tossed six scoreless innings to pick up the win. The right-hander had made two previous starts this year against the Missions, compiling a 12.38 ERA in those two games.

Notebook: Missions pitcher Matt Buschmann was promoted to Triple-A Tucson. Right-hander Erik Hamren was called up from Class-A Lake Elsinore to replace him. Hamren was 2-0, 1.08 ERA in 15 relief appearances for the Storm. Hamren tossed two scoreless innings Friday in his Double-A debut...Friday's loss was only the Missions third in 18 games that have been decided by more than two runs.
