Bears GM becomes an owner
"We are extremely pleased that KL accepted our offer to join the Bears' ownership group," said Bears' President Mike McMurray. "When the opportunity arose, we looked for a partner who loved baseball, had local ties, and, most importantly, was committed to being a part of Yakima's future. As evidenced by his accomplishments as our GM, KL was the ideal candidate."
"I am thrilled that the owners would consider me a partner," commented Wombacher. "I have always tried to approach my job as if I were an owner of the team. Now that will become a lot easier."
As is required of all prospective minor league baseball owners, Wombacher's addition to the Bears' ownership group had to first be approved by the Northwest League, the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues, and, ultimately, Major League Baseball. "It is a tough process," stated McMurray, "but KL came though it with flying colors."
KL joined the Bears as an intern in 2001, after graduating from Central Washington University. He gradually progressed to positions of more responsibility, culminating with his being named General Manager before the 2005 season. His wife, Lauren, is the Bears' office manager and graphics designer. The couple resides in Moxee.
The parent company of the Yakima Bears is Short Season LLC, a Yakima-domiciled limited liability company. The managing partners and majority owners are Mike and Laura McMurray of Selah. The Bears open their season at home on June 24th. Ticket plans are on sale now at their downtown office and online at yakimabears.com.
