A.J. Reed powers Grizzlies' offense in a 7-3 win
The Fresno Grizzlies defeated the Albuquerque Isotopes 7-3 Monday night from Chukchansi Park. Fresno starter Joe Musgrove (5-3) picked up the win after dicing for seven innings, allowing two runs (earned), on six hits, walking one and punching out seven. Albuquerque starter Christian Bergman (1-3) suffered the loss after allowing five runs (four earned) in five and one-third innings. He gave up seven hits, walking one with three strikeouts. The Grizzlies scattered 10 hits in the win.
Albuquerque struck first in the top of the fifth when Chris Nelson (2-for-4) launched a two-run home run to left. His second homer of the season made it 2-0.
Fresno took a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth. First, A.J. Reed (3-for-4) spanked a two-run shot to right. It was his 12th longball of the season. Then, Tyler Heineman (2-for-4) laced a single to right, which was booted to the wall, allowing two runs to score. Finally, Andrew Aplin singled to center, plating Heineman. The lead extended to 7-2 in the bottom of the seventh when Reed plastered a RBI double to right-center. He scored when Teoscar Hernandez singled to center.
The Isotopes added one final run, making it 7-3 in the top of the ninth when Tom Murphy (2-for-4) tattooed a pitch to center. It was his 14th home run of the season.
With the win, the Grizzlies improved to 9-3 versus the Isotopes, with a 7-1 record at home. Fresno also added their 14th win in series finales.
The Grizzlies become the Tacos Tuesday night from Downtown Fresno, as they host the Las Vegas 51's. Fresno RHP Cesar Valdez (8-1, 3.45) battles Las Vegas RHP Robert Gsellman (1-2, 9.00). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PT.
