Winning Streak Hits Five with 11-Inning Victory

Motter's walk-off single propels Durham to 6-5 win in extas
July 30, 2016

DURHAM, NC - Taylor Motter delivered a bases-loaded, two-out walk-off single to give the Durham Bulls a 6-5, 11-inning win Saturday night at the DBAP over the Louisville Bats, giving the Bulls their fifth straight victory.

Johnny Field doubled with one out in the bottom of the 11th inning, and after a groundout advanced him to third, Jake Hager was intentionally walked. Hank Conger followed with a four-pitch walk, before Motter lined a fastball into left field to give Durham (50-58) a series victory.

The combination of Ryne Stanek and Danny Farquhar blanked the Bats over the game's final four innings, as the pair of righty relievers struck out four, allowed one hit and did not walk a batter. Farquhar (4-2) earned the victory by blanking Louisville (53-54) in the 10th and 11th frames.

The visitors jumped out in front early, scoring once in the second inning and twice in the third. Durham came right back in the bottom of the third with three runs though, tying the game. Dayron Varona walked and Field singled to open the frame, and Eury Perez laced a two-run triple to score them both. After a pop out and a walk, Perez scampered home on an errant pickoff throw to tie the contest.

In the fifth the Bulls jumped out to a lead, as pitcher Eddie Gamboa scratched across an infield single after he was forced into the batting lineup after an injury. The pitcher advanced on a wild pitch, and Motter walked to put runners on second and third. JP Arencibia then ripped a double to score Gamboa, and Motter scored on a wild pitch as the home side took a two-run advantage.

The visitor's comeback started in the seventh when they scored a run on a wild pitch, and in the eighth Louisville tied the contest on an RBI single off the bat of Jermaine Curtis.

Field and Perez combined for four hits out of the eighth and ninth spots in the order, respectively, as the Bulls scored at least five runs for the fifth straight game.

The homestand closes Sunday when Durham sends RHP Jake Faria (2-2, 5.40) to the hill against RHP Daniel Wright (3-3, 4.28) for Louisville. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m.
