Matt Crouse earns IL Pitcher of the Week honors
The International League on Monday announced Toledo Mud Hens pitcher Matt Crouse was named IL Pitcher of the Week for the period from July 25-July 31. Crouse is the fourth Mud Hen to be honored this season, with Steven Moya named IL Batter of the Week May 2-8, and Chad Bell IL Pitcher of the Week May 23-29 and Dixon Machado IL Batter of the Week June 27-July 3.
The left-hander turned in one of his best outings of the season against Gwinnett Saturday at Fifth Third Field as the Hens cruised to a 6-0 shutout victory. Crouse held the Braves to just two hits over 7.0 scoreless innings, striking out two and walking three to roll to his fifth win of the season. It was the third time this season Crouse went at least 7.0 innings without allowing a run since he was promoted to Toledo from Double-A Erie in late May. The win lowered his ERA with the Mud Hens to 2.78.
26-year-old Matt Crouse is in his sixth season as a professional pitcher since being selected by Detroit in the 24th round of the 2011 draft. This is his first season pitching above the Double-A level. Crouse is a native of Haymarket, Virginia.
