Arkansas strands runners, falls in Springdale

The Travs left eight men on over the first three innings on Monday night. Northwest Arkansas plated seven straight runs after Arkansas jumped on top 2-0.

Springdale, AR - The Arkansas Travelers fell 7-2 to the Northwest Arkansas Naturals on Monday night at Arvest Ballpark.

The Travs scored runs in both of the first two innings, but left the bases loaded in the first and second, and left two men in scoring position in the third.

From there, the Naturals scored seven unanswered runs.

For a second straight game, the Arkansas starting pitcher surrendered three home runs.

On Monday, RHP Tyler Carpenter (L, 4-9) worked five innings and allowed six runs on 10 hits with no walks and three strikeouts. Carpenter is 0-6 with an ERA over 10 over his last six starts.

After RHP Josh Staumont walked six Travs over the first 1.2 innings, LHP Daniel Stumpf (W, 1-0) was brilliant in relief. The southpaw pitched 3.1 innings out of the 'pen and allowed just one hit with three strikeouts.

The three home runs were belted in three straight innings for the Naturals by 3B Mauricio Ramos in the third, LF Jack Lopez in the fourth and C Cam Gallagher in the fifth.

Northwest Arkansas finished with six extra-base hits.

Travs C Wade Wass went 2-for-3 and reached base three times with a walk.

DH Alex Yarbrough had the only other multi-hit game for Arkansas, finishing 2-for-5 with an RBI.

Arkansas finished 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.

With the loss, Arkansas and Northwest Arkansas are now tied for the division lead in the second half. The two teams will play the middle game of the three-game set on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
