Butler Strong in Isotopes 3-2 Win over Tacoma

Taking just over two hours, the Isotopes were able to split the series with the PCL-best Tacoma Rainiers, coming out on top this afternoon 3-2. Solid pitching, clutch hitting, and sound defense all contributed to the Isotopes victory.

Isotopes starter Eddie Butler matched his career-high in innings pitched, tossing eight frames on the afternoon. During his time on the mound, Butler allowed just two runs on four hits against a potent Rainiers lineup.

Isotopes reliever Matt Carasiti came on in the ninth inning and recorded his first career Triple-A save, with the game ending an a fantastic diving effort from second baseman Jeff Bianchi. In four outings with the Isotopes, Carasiti has recorded five scoreless, one-hit innings.

Offensively for Albuquerque, catcher Tom Murphy recorded a two-RBI triple to get the Isotopes on the board in the fourth inning. The three-base hit was Murphy's sixth of the season. Before 2016, Murphy had only recorded eight career triples.

Right-fielder Jordan Patterson would then bring home Murphy to give the Isotopes a 3-2 lead, an advantage the club would not relinquish. 

Designated hitter Stephen Cardullo was 1-for-4 on the afternoon, extending his hitting streak to 12 games. Cardullo recorded a 13-game hitting streak for the Isotopes in April.

The Isotopes return home tomorrow to open an eight-game homestand, first taking on the visiting Sacramento River Cats (Triple-A Giants). Left-hander Kyle Freeland (2-2, 4.71) will toe the rubber for the Isotopes tomorrow evening. He will be opposed by Sacramento's Joan Gregorio (3-6, 5.43). First pitch from Isotopes Park is set for 7:05 p.m.
