Yard Goats Drop Series Opener in Trenton 11-4

Trenton, NJ- The Hartford Yard Goats (61-46) lost to the Trenton Thunder (69-40) by the score of 11-4 on Tuesday night in the first of a three game series at Arm & Hammer Park in Trenton, New Jersey. The Thunder broke a 3-3 tie in the eighth inning by scoring eight runs on six singles one double and two errors. Dustin Fowler highlighted the frame with a 3RBI double. Yard Goats starter Zach Jimiola pitched seven strong innings and allowed only three runs (2ER) and left a 3-3 game. Hartford infielder Juan Ciriaco had two hits, including a solo home run and score twice. His third inning homer tied the game at 1-1. The Yard Goats have won 13 of their last 17 games since July 15th.    

The Thunder scored the first run of the game in the second inning off Hartford starter Zach Jemiola. Abiatel Avelino reached second base on a throwing error and scored on a double by Mike Ford, giving Trenton a 1-0 lead.

The Yard Goats tied the game in the third inning on a solo home run by Juan Ciriaco off Trenton starter Daniel Camarena. With two outs, the Yard Goats shortstop cracked a line drove homer over the left field fence, his second home run this season, and tied the game at 1-1.

Trenton took a 3-1 lead with a pair of runs in the fifth inning. Mark Payton ripped and RBI triple and Jose Rosario followed with an RBI single.

Again, the Yard Goats came back by scoring twice in the sixth inning. Juan Ciriaco singled to center and Raimel Tapia singled to rightfield. Pat Valaika then scorched a double to right, scoring Ciriaco and making it 3-2. Later that inning, Rosell Herrera beat out an infield single with two outs, scoring Tapia and tying the game at 3-3.

The Thunder scored eight runs in the eighth inning to break the 3-3 tie. The Yankees' affiliate did the damage on six singles, a double, and two errors. Dustin Fowler's base clearing 3 RBI double highlighted the frame. 

The Yard Goats continue the three game series against the Thunder on Wednesday afternoon (12:00 PM). LHP Sam Howard will start for the Yard Goats. The game will be broadcast live on News Radio 1410 WPOP.
