Noel Cuevas Named July Player of the Month

August 4, 2016

Portland, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce Hartford Yard Goats outfielder Noel Cuevas has been named the Eastern League Player of the Month for the month of July. Cuevas batted .425 (37-for-87) with seven doubles, one triple, two home runs, 14 RBIs, 16 runs scored, two stolen bases, a .440 on-base percentage and a .598 slugging percentage in 23 games during the month. The 24-year old made his 2016 season debut for the Yard Goats on July 5th after joining the club from the Albuquerque Isotopes of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League. He collected three hits in each of the first four games he appeared in for the Yard Goats and went on to reach base in 17 of the 23 games he appeared in during the month, including going 5-for-5 with a two-run homer and two runs scored in a 7-5 loss at Binghamton on July 14th. That five hit performance, which was the first five hit game by a Hartford player in franchise history, helped the 6'2", 190 lb. slugger take home the Eastern League Player of the Week Award for the period of July 11th through July 17th.

Cuevas, who is a native of Camuy, Puerto Rico, led all Eastern League players in batting average (.425) during the month of July. He also finished ranked among the monthly leaders in hits (37-tied 2nd), on-base percentage (.440-3rd), slugging percentage (.598-3rd), OPS (1.037-3rd), total bases (52-6th) and runs scored (16-tied 9th).

Noel, who is hitting .406 with 15 RBIs and 18 runs scored in 25 games for Hartford this season, was acquired by the Colorado Rockies in a trade from the Los Angeles Dodgers on December 16, 2014. He was originally selected by the Dodgers in the 21st round of the 2010 draft out of Universidad Interamericana in Puerto Rico.
