Mobile 16, Carolina 6
The Mudcats (11-29) scored three unearned to open the game against starter Wade Miley (W, 1-2), taking advantage of an error by Dan Kaczrowski at second base, however the lead would be short lived.
Dallas Buck suffered through a 47-pitch first inning, which saw the BayBears (23-15) send 10 to the plate and six score. Mobile pushed across five more in the second, knocking Buck (L, 1-5) out of the game with two outs. Buck was charged for 11 runs (10 earned) over 1 2/3 innings, hitting four batters and permitting eight hits.
By the fifth inning, Mobile led 14-3 before the Mudcats attempted a rally. Carolina scored three runs on five hits against Miley to trim the deficit to 14-6, but Jose Castro was thrown out at the plate by left fielder Ollie Linton to quell the Mudcats' uprising.
The BayBears drilled out 18 hits in the victory, and took four of five from Carolina in the series. Wednesday's game was the final-ever regular season game between the Mudcats and BayBears, with Carolina joining the High-A Carolina League in 2012. Mobile took eight of 10 meetings this year.
Miguel Rojas went 3-4 with two runs scored and an RBI to lead the Mudcats offense. Felix Perez and Denis Phipps each had two hits.
Lee Tabor worked 3 1/3 innings, allowing five hits and four runs in long relief. Donnie Joseph (1ip, 1r), Nick Christiani (1ip, 0r) and Brad Boxberger (1ip, 0r) split the final three innings of the game.
The Mudcats completed their 10-game road trip 2-8.
Carolina opens a 10-game homestand on Friday night against the Chattanooga Lookouts with Matt Klinker starting for the Mudcats at 7:15 PM ET.
