Military Appreciation Game Set for August 7

1st 1,000 Fans Get a Military Card Set Featuring Local Heroes

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- The Charlotte Knights will pay tribute to the Military tonight at BB&T Ballpark when the team hosts the Norfolk Tides (Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles) in a 5:05 p.m. Military Appreciation game, presented by Lexus. As part of the evening's festivities, the first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a Military Card Set, featuring local heroes, who will be honored on the field before the game.

Among the heroes to be honored will be James Crump, a World War II Veteran. Crump, a native of North Carolina, has a decorated career, which includes three Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars, two WWII Victory Medals, and a Distinguished Service Award. Born in 1924, Crump is currently an active member of the VFW Post 2423 Honor Guard in Indian Trail, NC.

The unique card set consists of the following active Military members and Veterans:

James Crump - U.S. Army
Adam Stead - U.S. Army
Debbie McClendon - U.S. Army
Tommy Rieman - U.S. Army
Jamel Staton - U.S. Army
Donald Waters - U.S. Army
David McCullar - U.S. Air Force
Ricky Garvin - U.S. Army
Nick Kaylor - U.S. Navy
Igrain Padilla - U.S. Army

In addition, the Combat Logistics Battalion 451 will be today's honorary Color Guard, while the National Anthem will be sung by Airman First Class, Zachary Mitchell of the North Carolina Air National Guard. Tonight's ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by SSgt Jacob Sammler of the United States Marine Corps. Charlotte Knights players will wear Military jerseys and there will be special tributes to the Military throughout the game. The game-worn jerseys will be autographed and auction off at CharlotteKnights.com later this month for Charlotte Knights Charities.
