Biondi's hit lifts Mets to wild 11-10 win over Marauders

Mets sweep Marauders, take over first place in FSL South
August 7, 2016

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (August 7, 2016) - Patrick Biondi lifted the St. Lucie Mets to a wild 11-10 walk-off win over the Bradenton Marauders on Sunday at Tradition Field.

The game saw the Marauders blow a 6-0 lead and the Mets squander a 10-6 advantage.

Bradenton's Pablo Reyes laced a game-tying two-run double with two outs in the top of the ninth to make it 10-10.

Marauders closer Luis Heredia took over in the bottom of the ninth and promptly walked Jhoan Urena. Kevin Kaczmarski was inserted as a pinch runner and he advanced to second base on Vinny Siena's sac bunt. Lednier Ricardo reached on an infield single and Jonathan Johnson drew another walk to load the bases.

That brought up Biondi, who chopped a 3-2 pitch up the middle against Bradenton's drawn in infield for the game-winning hit.

It was an ugly game for both teams on the mound. The teams combined to walk 20 batters (10 each), throw four wild pitches and plunk two hitters.

The Mets trailed 6-0 entering the bottom of the fifth but rallied for nine runs to take a 9-6 lead. Michael Katz made it 6-5 with a two-out, two-run single. John Mora cracked a tying RBI triple. Vinny Siena doubled to bring in Mora for a 7-6 lead. Lednier Ricardo then grounded a two-run single to make it 9-6. It was the most runs the Mets scored in a single inning this season.

Corey Taylor got the win despite blowing the save. Starter Mickey Jannis allowed six runs in three innings.

Urena reached base in his final four plate appearances. Johnson walked three times. Biondi, Thompson, Urena and Ricardo had two hits apiece.

The Mets victory and Jupiter's 4-3 loss to Palm Beach in 11 innings puts the Mets in sole possession of first place in the FSL South Division.

Next Up: The Mets (59-50, 24-18) start a critical six-game road trip on the west coast of Florida. First up is a three-game series with the Fort Myers Miracle beginning Monday at 7:05 p.m.
