BRIAN MUNDELL SETS COLORADO ROCKIES MINOR LEAGUE RECORD

August 9, 2016

ASHEVILLE, NC-- Asheville Tourists first-baseman Brian Mundell carved his name into the Rockies history books on Tuesday night. Mundell set a Colorado Rockies Minor League record for doubles in an individual season by recording his 48th double of the 2016 campaign with a two-bagger against the Lexington Legends in the eighth inning.

The previous Rockies Minor League mark of 47 doubles that Mundell surpassed was shared by Correlle Prime, who hit 47 doubles in 2014 with Asheville, and Christian Colonel who accomplished the feat in 2007 with Class AA Tulsa. The Colorado Rockies Major League record for doubles hit in a season was set by former Asheville Tourist Todd Helton; who belted 59 for the big league club in 2000.

The 48 doubles bring Mundell into a tie for the third most in the history of the South Atlantic League; a league that was established in 1960. The league record for doubles in a season is 55. The Tourists have 25 games remaining on their schedule.

Asheville is in the middle of an eight-game road trip and will return to McCormick Field on August 16 to take on the Columbia Fireflies. Tickets are available at the ServPro Box Office or by calling the front office at (828)258-0428.
