Storm Win Eighth in a Row Routing Lancaster 16-4
In the final game of the seven-game homestand, the Storm earned a season high in runs(16) and hits(19), on their way to their eighth win in a row.
Over the eight game winning streak, the Storm have outscored their opponents (Lancaster/Inland Empire) 67-22, averaging 12.1 hits per game as well.
On Monday night, the Jethawks would come out early, scoring three in the first inning. With one out, Lancaster's Grant Hogue singled on a blooper to shortstop Jeudy Valdez. The slow chopper would eat up Valdez and be scored as an infield hit. Hogue then stole second, and then third on a throwing error from catcher Jason Hagerty. Jose Altuve would hit in Hogue after singling to left. California League home run leader Kody Hinze stepped to the plate next, crushing a two-run home run to make the score 3-0 Lancaster. The home run was Hinze's 13 of the season, two above Storm 3B Jedd Gyorko, who has 11.
The Storm would open their day of scoring in a big way in the bottom of the second. All nine Lake Elsinore starters would get to plate combining for five runs, five hits and one walk. With one out, Dean Anna singled to left. Anna would then take second and third one two wild pitches from Lancaster. Jonathan Galvez walked to put runners on the corners for Danny Payne. Payne reached on an error, hitting a chopper to second base. Dean Anna would score from third to cut the deficit to 3-1.
With runners on first and second, Dan Meeley singled in Galvez from second and moved Payne from first to third. Reymond Fuentes would do the same, hitting a single that scored Payne and sent Meeley from first to third. It looked as if the Storm would repeat the same play again when Jeudy Valdez singled to center. On the single, Meeley scored from third and Reymond Fuentes attempted to take third, but a great throw from Lancaster CF Hogue would beat Fuentes to third for the second out of the inning.
With two down and Valdez on second, Jedd Gyorko hit a line drive single to left, scoring Valdez. Edinson Rincon would be the ninth and final batter of the inning grounding out to third baseman Kody Hinze.
The Storm would continue to route the Jethawks, scoring two in the third, four in the fourth and five in the fifth inning bring their lead to 16-3. Lancaster would score once more in the top of the seventh to finish the scoring at 16-4.
