Zack Burdi Promoted to AAA Charlotte

Birmingham Reliever Has Not Surrendered a Hit since July 23
August 11, 2016

BIRMINGHAM, AL - The Chicago White Sox announced today that reliever Zack Burdi has been promoted from the AA Birmingham Barons to the AAA Charlotte Knights.

Burdi, 21, departs the Barons with a 0-0 record and a 3.94 ERA, having pitched 16.0 innings in 12 appearances with Birmingham this season. The no. 26 selection in this year's MLB Draft has posted a 1.80 ERA over his last 10 appearances (15.0 innings pitched) and not allowed a hit in his last five outings.

A 6'3" right-hander, Burdi has also posted 22 strikeouts and just five walks across his last 10 appearances. Opponents are hitting just .132 (7-for-53) against Burdi at the AA level, with righties batting just .114 (4-for-35) against the Louisville product.

The Downers Grove, IL native has allowed just one hit with two outs in AA (5.0 IP), surrendering no walks while adding 10 strikeouts out of the bullpen.

Burdi has the potential to be the third former Baron in recent history to cross five levels in one season en route to the Major Leagues. Former Barons' Daniel Hudson (2009) and Addison Reed (2011) each made a stop at every White Sox affiliate, while Burdi began this year in college before appearing for the AZL White Sox, Winston-Salem Dash, and Birmingham Barons.
