Barons Drop Series Opener to Lookouts

BIRMINGHAM, AL -- The Birmingham Barons jumped out to an early lead but dropped the series opener to the Chattanooga Lookouts by a 7-1 score at Regions Field.
Birmingham jumped out front in the second inning after Keon Barnum brought home Trey Michalczewski with a sacrifice fly; but the Barons could not keep up as the Lookouts scored seven straight runs.
Starter Jordan Guerrero took the loss after allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits across six innings of work. The 22-year-old Guerrero walked two batters and added four strikeouts.
Brandon Brennan tossed two innings in relief, giving up two earned runs on two hits while surrendering one walk and recording one punch out.
Southpaw Brian Clark closed the game with an inning out of the bullpen, allowing one hit while registering one strikeout.
Stephen Gonsalves became the second pitcher to toss a complete game against the Barons this season, allowing just three hits across 101 pitches.
Blair Walters starts the second game of the series tomorrow evening at Regions Field. The California native is 2-2 with a 2.66 ERA in eight starts at home this season.
