Arcia's blast sinks former team, Crabs win 2-0
FORT MYERS, Fla. (August 12, 2016) - Former Fort Myers Miracle All-Star Oswaldo Arcia's two-run homer sent the Charlotte Stone Crabs to a 2-0 win on Friday night at Hammond Stadium.
After seven scoreless innings, the Stone Crabs snapped a 0-0 tie with a two-out rally against Miracle reliever Cameron Booser in the eighth inning. Booser (0-1) struck out the first two batters, but issued a walk to Andrew Velasquez to bring up Arcia. On a 2-1 pitch, Arcia launched a long fly ball down the right field line that ended up in the drink rails, 2-0. Arcia, who came up through the Twins farm system, had 15 home runs combined between the 2011 and 2012 seasons in a Miracle jersey.
The Miracle could not capitalize on a brilliant start from Fernando Romero. Over seven innings, Romero fanned a season-high 11 Stone Crabs while scattering hits and issuing no runs or walks. Romero threw 97 pitches, 71 for strikes.
Charlotte used two pitchers to shut out the Miracle. Brad Schreiber made a spot start after a 50-minute rain delay and allowed just one hit in two innings. The scheduled starter, Greg Harris, entered the game in the third and finished out the evening on the mound. Harris (9-6) surrendered just two hits and one walk in seven scoreless innings with five strikeouts.
The Miracle (57-59, 23-24) and Stone Crabs (57-58, 25-21) wrap up the season series at Hammond Stadium on Saturday evening at 6:05 p.m. Dereck Rodriguez (0-1) gets the nod for the Miracle against Charlotte knuckleballer Jeff Howell (1-3).
