Isotopes Win Eighth Straight, Down Sky Sox 3-1
The Isotopes (56-64) earned their eighth win in a row, defeating the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 3-1 on Sunday afternoon. The winning streak is the second longest of the season for Albuquerque, with the club winning 22 of their last 33 games.
Isotopes pitching was dominant, holding the Sky Sox to just one hit through eight innings. Albuquerque starter Jeff Hoffman earned the win, striking out nine over five shutout innings on the mound. Hoffman has now recorded back-to-back scoreless outings.
Offensively, right fielder Raimel Tapia led the way for the Isotopes, recording two triples and an RBI on the afternoon. Tapia is now hitting .444 (12-for-27) since his promotion to Triple-A.
Center fielder Mike Tauchman and catcher Tom Murphy also knocked home runs on the afternoon. Despite the RBI, Murphy was not able to record a hit, snapping his 15-game hitting streak. The stretch was the longest of the season for the Isotopes.
The Isotopes look for their second series sweep in a row when they wrap up their series with the Sky Sox on Monday when right-hander Eddie Butler (6-2, 5.06) gets the start for Albuquerque. The Sky Sox will counter with righty Hiram Burgos (6-9, 4.97). First pitch from Colorado Springs is set for 6:35 p.m.
