Tanner Scheppers to rehab with RoughRiders tonight in Frisco

Rangers righty recovering from torn knee cartilage

FRISCO, TEXAS (August 16, 2016) - The Texas Rangers have announced that right-handed pitcher Tanner Scheppers will begin a Major League rehab assignment with the RoughRiders at Dr Pepper Ballpark tonight at 7:05 p.m. He is scheduled to pitch one inning.

Scheppers, 29, is recovering from torn articular cartilage in his left knee, an injury suffered in February. He is currently on the 60-day disabled list with the Rangers.

The righty has pitched with the Rangers in each of the last four seasons. The reliever worked in 42 games last season, going 4-1 with a 5.63 ERA. For his career, he's 11-5 with a 4.17 ERA across 165 outings.

The native of Mission Viejo, California pitched with the RoughRiders as a minor leaguer in 2010 and 2011. In that span, he held a 2-1 record with an ERA of 2.38. He made his Major League debut with Texas on June 7, 2012. This will be his fifth rehab stint with the Riders after joining the squad on two rehab appearances in both the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

Scheppers was drafted by the Rangers in the first round (44th overall) of the 2009 draft out of Fresno State University.

The RoughRiders take on the Springfield Cardinals tonight at 7:05 p.m., as they begin a six-game homestand at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
