Mitch Haniger called up to D-backs
RENO - The Reno Aces (@Aces), in conjunction with the Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks), announced the contract of outfielder Mitch Haniger (@M_Hanny19) has been purchased by the D-backs.
In 64 games with the Aces, Haniger batted .351 (80-for-228) with 19 home runs, 56 RBI, 53 runs scored and six stolen bases. Since his promotion from Double-A Mobile on June 10, the former Cal Poly star ranks among Minor League Baseball's best in runs scored (first), extra-base hits (first, 39), home runs (third), and RBI (fourth). Before he moved up to Triple-A, Haniger played 55 games with the BayBears, batting .294 (58-for-197) with five home runs, 30 RBI, 21 runs scored and four steals.
Haniger, 25, will join the Diamondbacks for their game tonight at Chase Field against the New York Mets. 2016 marks Haniger's first season with the Aces after being acquired by Arizona with left-handed pitcher Anthony Banda from Milwaukee in exchange for outfielder Gerardo Parra on July 31, 2014. He has a career batting average of .290 (460-for-1,584) with 60 home runs, 260 RBI, 272 runs scored and 36 stolen bases since making his professional debut with Single-A Wisconsin on June 22, 2012. A Southern League All-Star this season, Haniger was named the Pacific Coast League Player of the Month for July.
In another roster move, right-handed pitcher John Omahen was reinstated from the seven-day disabled list, and will start tonight's series opener at Memphis.
