Former Atlanta Braves Manager Bobby Cox to Make an Appearance

The Danville Braves are excited to announce that former Atlanta Braves manager, Bobby Cox, will be making an appearance at American Legion Post 325 Field on July 9th. The Saturday night game will be the second in a six-game homestand. The Braves are set to take on the Bluefield Blue Jays at 7:00 PM.

The former Braves skipper retired following the conclusion of the 2010 season with a 2,504-2,001 (.556) record in 29 years of managing at the Major League level. Bobby Cox spent 25 years with the Braves from 1978-1981, and then a second stint from 1990-2010. After his first four seasons with Atlanta, he accumulated a .540 win percentage at the helm of the Toronto Blue Jays.

With the Blue Jays, Cox's teams finished atop the division once. During his second go-around with the Braves, Atlanta finished first place in the division a record 14 times in a row between 1991 and 2005. In 1995, he won the World Series as the manager of the Atlanta Braves. Cox was named the American League Manager of the year in 1985 and was named National League Manager of the year three times (1991, 2004, 2005).

The Atlanta Braves have announced that he will be inducted into the Atlanta Braves Hall of Fame and his number (6) will be retired on August 12th, 2011 prior to the game against the Chicago Cubs.
