NHL Hall of Famer, Rod Langway, Set to Appear at Pfitzner Stadium for a Meet-and-Greet with P-Nats Fans

2002 NHL HOF Inductee to Pose for Pictures and Sign Autographs with the P-Nats Faithful on Friday, September 2nd
August 19, 2016

Woodbridge, VA---Former Washington Capitals captain and NHL Hall of Fame member, "The Secretary of Defense," Rod Langway will appear at Pfitzner Stadium on Friday, September 2nd for a special meet-and-greet with Potomac Nationals fans presented by Lindsay Automotive.

A two-time winner of the James Norris Memorial Trophy given to the top defenseman in the NHL, Langway was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2002. Langway began his career with the Montreal Canadiens and was traded to Washington for the start of the 1982-83 season. After the Capitals failed to make the playoffs in their first eight years after joining the NHL, the team made the playoffs in 11 straight years, which spanned Langway's career with Washington.

Langway will pose for photos and sign free autographs for P-Nats fans and the Hall of Famer will throw out a ceremonial first pitch prior to Potomac's matchup with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Chicago Cubs).

A 15-year veteran in the NHL, Langway was named a captain of the Capitals shortly after Washington acquired the defenseman. The 36th overall pick in the 1977 NHL Draft, son of an American serviceman, was born while his father was stationed in Taiwan and is the only player in NHL history to have been born in the Republic of China.

Langway won a Stanley Cup with Montreal in 1979, was a six-time All-Star, and had his jersey number (#5) retired by the Washington Capitals on November 26, 1997. Langway was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in 1999 and the World Hockey Association Hall of Fame in 2012.

Gates to Pfitzner Stadium will open for this special NHL Hall of Fame celebrity appearance at 6:00pm, and Langway will be available for autographs and pictures with fans from 6:15pm-6:45pm and then again during a second autograph and photo session from 7:15pm to 8:45pm after Langway throws out his first pitch.

Langway's appearance will complement another Pokémon Night at The Pfitz in addition to a Potomac Nationals Floppy Hat giveaway presented by FH Furr.
