August 20, 2016

GRANVILLE, W.Va. - As of August 20, Black Bears' SS Stephen Alemais has been promoted to the West Virginia Power, the Class A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The third round pick in the 2016 MLB June Amateur Draft, Alemais batted .263 in 39 games with the West Virginia Black Bears, leading the team in stolen bases (nine) while displaying tremendous defensive abilities at shortstop.

Over his final ten games with the team, from August 6-18, the New York, NY native hit .381 (16-for-42) with six RBI, seven runs scored, one home run and recorded seven multi-hit games. An All-American Athletic Conference First Team selection in 2016, Alemais was a standout for Tulane pacing the Green Wave in batting average (.311), hits (66) and stolen bases (19).

One of Alemais' many highlights throughout his time in the New York-Penn League came back on July 16 where he made SportsCenter's Top Ten Plays at No. 7. In a 6-5 win over the Auburn Doubledays, he went airborne while falling backwards to turn an incredible 2-6-3 double play.

After a three-game road trip to Batavia, the Black Bears will return home to face the Williamsport Crosscutters on August 23-25.
