Pelicans announce theme nights

March 28, 2007
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A Advanced affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, unveiled the third part of their 2007 promotional schedule today, announcing the dates of all theme nights and weekly promotions. More than half of the Pelicans schedule (41 out of 70 home dates) will feature a theme night.

"Something we've put a renewed emphasis on this year is taking advantage of the freedom of thought that minor league baseball provides," said Pelicans General Manager North Johnson. "As long as the fans are being entertained there's no idea that's too outlandish, and I think our fans are really going to enjoy getting involved and playing along with our theme nights."

The theme nights get into full-swing on Saturday, April 28 when the Pelicans host Embrace Your Inner-Geekness Night. Break out your pocket protectors and don't forget to wear your high-waters as the most entertaining geek in the world, Myron Noodleman, brings his entertaining act to the ballpark. April is also highlighted by the Fellowship Festival on Sunday, April 29, which will feature a post-game Christian concert on the field following the game's early start time of 3:05 p.m.

In May, the Pelicans will have their first-ever International Week, with Irish Heritage Night on Monday, May 21, Italian Heritage Night on Tuesday, May 22, and Greek Heritage Night on Friday, May 25.

On Wednesday, June 13 all dogs are invited to bring their owners to watch the Pelicans take on the Salem Avalanche as part of Dinger's 9th Annual Bark in the Park. Saturday, June 16 will be a very important night at Coastal Federal Field, as the Pelicans recognize those who have battled breast cancer on Pink Ribbon Night presented by WPDE. The Pelicans will be collecting donations throughout the night, and all proceeds will go directly to "A Cure In Our Lifetime." On the field the Pelicans will be wearing pink uniforms as they take on the rival Kinston Indians. The game-worn, limited-edition, pink uniforms will be auctioned off throughout the evening.

An action-packed month of July gets started with Mascot Mania on Friday, July 6 against Wilmington, as Pelicans' mascot Splash will be joined by many of his friends for fun and mischief all night long. Fans needing an excuse to show off their tight Wranglers and big belt buckles will get their chance on Thursday, July 12 for Gator 107.9 Cowboy Night. On Friday, July 13, yes, Friday the 13th, any fan named Jason (must-show valid ID at box office) or anyone wearing a hockey mask will receive a $1 discount at the box office. On Tuesday, July 24 prepare yourself for one Awful Night at the ballpark. Trust us, it's going to be plain awful! It's Christmas In July on Wednesday, July 25, even if the summer heat doesn't have you thinking about candy canes and sugar plums. A special guest appearance by Santa Claus and a toy drive will highlight the evening. The follicly-challenged will be idolized on Bald Is Beautiful Night presented by Bob FM, Friday, July 27, when all fans who are completely bald, not those still hanging on or using the classic comb-over, will receive a $1 discount at the box office. Then, on Saturday, July 28 it's five o'clock all night long as the Pelicans present Parrothead Night.

August brings National Night Out as well as the Guns 'n' Hoses softball game between local police and firefighters on Tuesday, August 7. On Sunday, September 2 it's Fan Appreciation Night to close out the thrill ride of theme nights on the 2007 slate.

In addition to the theme nights, the Pelicans will offer, SC Education Lottery Two-For-Tuesdays with two-for-one reserved bleacher tickets for every Tuesday home game, Kids Run The Bases courtesy of the Batter's Box every Wednesday, Thirsty Thursdays, thanks to The Weekly Surge with 12-ounce beer and soda for just $1 every Thursday and Family Fun Days with entertainment in the concourse every Sunday.
