Kettering Health Network Presents Breast Cancer Awareness Day

Dragons Players, Coaches, Front Office and Game Day Staff to Wear Pink in Support of Breast Cancer Awareness
August 22, 2016

Dayton, Ohio - Kettering Health Network presents Breast Cancer Awareness Day on Thursday, August 25 at Fifth Third Field when the Dayton Dragons host the Lansing Lugnuts at 7:00 p.m. All Dragons players, coaches, front office and game day staff will be wearing pink sweatbands during the game.

The Breast Cancer Awareness Event will take place on the plaza where Kettering Health Network will be passing out pink rally towels. Kettering Breast Evaluation Centers will also have a booth on the plaza. In addition, the American Cancer Society will have information on the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk which is being held at Fifth Third Field on Saturday, October 15.

Breast Cancer survivor Diana Hoyle will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. In February of 2014, Hoyle, sensing that something wasn't quite right, went to see a doctor at a local Kettering Breast Evaluation Center. "There were no guidelines and I didn't fit the criteria, but I knew something was wrong, she said. "I saw different doctors and found that it is best to follow your instincts and know your own body."

She was diagnosed with breast cancer early in the month of February and just a few weeks later was having surgery. Hoyle began four months of chemotherapy in March, which was followed by a double mastectomy in July. In August, she began seven weeks of radiation and by the end of October she had been cured of breast cancer.

Diana is part of Kettering Cancer Care's patient advisory council. A 30 member group of cancer patients, their families, and physicians that provide input into the design, features and services at the new cancer center opening in December.

As a part of a national fundraising effort, the 2016 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk will take place at Fifth Third Field on Saturday, October 15 starting at 8 a.m.
