Vargas Joins Chasers On MLB Rehab
The Kansas City Royals have announced a transaction that affects their Triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers roster prior to Monday evening's matchup versus the Nashville Sounds at Werner Park.
Royals left-hander Jason Vargas' Major League Rehab Assignment has been transferred to Omaha from Double-A Northwest Arkansas, and is expected to start this evening. Over his first three starts of his assignment between the AZL Royals and Naturals, the southpaw has posted no record and 5.68 ERA (4 ER/6.1 IP) after undergoing Tommy John surgery July 2015 to repair a torn ligament in his left elbow.
In his ten-year Big League career, the 33-year-old has compiled a 67-70 record and 4.20 ERA (564 ER/1209.2 IP) in 213 outings, including 193 starts. In two season with the Royals he has tallied a 16-12 mark and 3.76 ERA (96 ER/230.0 IP) in 39 starts, including a 5-2 mark and 3.98 ERA (19 ER/43.0 IP) in nine starts last year. He was acquired by the Royals as a Major League free agent on November 22, 2013 and was originally selected by the Florida Marlins in the second round of the 2004 MLB Draft.
The Storm Chasers' roster now stands at 25 active players, in addition to three on the Disabled List, as well as Vargas, LHP Mike Minor and RHP Kris Medlen on Major League Rehab Assignments.
Vargas is expected to be opposed this evening by Sounds LHP Dillon Overton (11-5, 3.48). First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. CT.
