Colby Lewis to rehab with Riders Wednesday in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS (August 23, 2016) - The Texas Rangers announced Tuesday that right-handed pitcher Colby Lewis will begin a Major League rehabilitation assignment with the Frisco RoughRiders, Texas' Double-A affiliate, Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. in San Antonio.

Lewis, 37, has been on the disabled list since June 25 with a strained right latissimus dorsi muscle. Prior to the injury, he was one of the go-to arms in the Rangers rotation, posting a 6-1 record alongside a 3.21 ERA in 15 starts with Texas.

The righty is in his 14th season as a professional and his 11th as a big leaguer. For his Major League career, he has an a 4.68 ERA to go along with his 77-68 record in 229 career outings, covering almost 1,200 innings.

Lewis was a first-round pick (38th overall) by the Rangers in 1999 out of Bakersfield College. He made his Major League debut with Texas April 1, 2002 and has pitched for Texas at the big league level from 2002-2004 and again from 2010-present. He was with Detroit in 2006, Oakland in 2007, and with the Hiroshima Carp of the Japan Central League in 2008 and 2009.

This will be his third rehab stint with the Riders, following two separate stays with the club during the 2013 season.

The RoughRiders return to Dr Pepper Ballpark for the final homestand of the season Tuesday, August 30. The seven-game homestand against the Corpus Christi Hooks and Midland RockHounds includes Bark in the Park Night presented by Muenster Pet Foods and VCA Animal Hospitals on Wednesday, August 31, along with State Fair of Texas Night on Friday, August 2.
