Chris Coghlan In Des Moines On Rehab

August 26, 2016

DES MOINES, IA - Chicago Cubs outfielder Chris Coghlan began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa last night. The outfielder played seven innings and went 1-for-3 with the team's only run scored. He is scheduled to bat second for the I-Cubs tonight as the designated hitter.

Coghlan, 31, suffered a rib injury on Aug. 16 after a collision with shortstop Addison Russell on a fly ball. He was placed on the disabled list the next day. Coghlan entered spring training with the Cubs, but was traded to the Oakland A's on February 25 for Aaron Brooks. He later returned to Chicago on June 9 in exchange for Arismendy Alcantara.

The outfielder has been limited to 78 games this season between Chicago and Oakland due to two stints on the disabled list, both with right rib injuries. Coghlan has hit .165 - his lowest mark since he hit .140 in 39 games with Miami in 2012 - with five homers and 19 RBI.

Iowa and Omaha play game two of the four-game series at 7:08 tonight at Principal Park. For more information or tickets visit www.iowacubs.com.
