Bass to Face Lugo, Hopes 'Pigs Keep Smashing

May 31, 2011
On Monday, the IronPigs put on a offensive fireworks show that wad led by Jeff Larish and his two-homer, seven RBI night. The IronPigs were up to task against the highly touted Julio Teheran, banging him up for five runs over 6.0 innings pitched.

On Tuesday, Brian Bass and the IronPigs will be facing off against bullpen hand LHP Jose Lugo, who will be making his first start of the season after a rotation shake-up in the wake of the Rodrigo Lopez trade to the Chicago Cubs.

Lugo has made ten appearances out of the bullpen for the Braves this season, and has accumulated a 1-0 record with a 2.50 ERA with 13 walks and 19 strikeouts in 18 innings pitched. The IronPigs got a taste of Lugo in last week's series at Coca-Cola Park, and they had success as they were able to score three runs on four hits over 4.0 innings pitched in Lugo's two appearances from the bullpen.

Brian Bass is coming off a quality start against Rochester in which he went 6.0 innings while surrendering no earned runs (two unearned) with no walks and four strikeouts. Bass has not faced the Gwinnett Braves this season, however he should be the favorite against Lugo.

First pitch tonight is slated for 7:05. Matt Provence will have the call beginning at 6:35 p.m. for the AT&T Pre-Game Show on the IronPigs Radio Network, ESPN 1230-1320 AM.
