Clinton miscues assist Fort Wayne comeback
May 31, 2011
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - A pitchers' duel turned into a bizarre finish and a 4-3, 10-inning loss for the TinCaps against the Clinton LumberKings Tuesday at Parkview Field. Luis Domoromo went 2-for-5 and scored a run.

Fort Wayne RHP Keyvius Sampson locked horns with Clinton RHP Taijuan Walker and the pair kept it scoreless until the top of the fourth when Jabari Blash drilled a two-run homer to put Clinton ahead.

Meanwhile, Walker faced the minimum through five and retired 20 of the first 22 hitters he faced. In the eighth, Jose Dore roped a leadoff single, but Emmanuel Quiles bounced into a double play. After the play, Quiles and manager Shawn Wooten were ejected for arguing the call at first base. Fort Wayne loaded the bases later in the inning but did not score.

The LumberKings tacked on an unearned run in the eighth as Carlos Ramirez scored on an error, making it 3-0.

The TinCaps rallied in the bottom of the ninth. Rymer Liriano and Domoromo reached on back-to-back singles. Tommy Medica followed with a double off the base of the right-field wall to drive in Liriano and put the tying run in scoring position. A passed ball allowed Domoromo to score and made it 3-2. After a pair of strikeouts, Wes Cunningham hit a slow grounder to the second baseman, which went between the fielder's legs for an error to bring home the tying run.

In the tenth, Anthony Phillips doubled to lead off the inning. Phillips later scored on a sacrifice fly by Kalian Sams to plate the go-ahead run.

RHP Adam Dominick (2-2) took the loss as Clinton RHP Tyler Burgoon (2-1) was the winning pitcher and RHP Keli'i Zablan notched his first save.

Fort Wayne dipped to 23-28; the Clinton upped its record to 15-38.

The TinCaps continue a three-game series against the LumberKings (Class-A Seattle Mariners) Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. Fort Wayne RHP Zach Cates (1-3) goes to the mound against Clinton RHP George Mieses (1-6).
