Colby Lewis gets through second rehab start in Riders' loss

Frisco rallies to tie game in seventh but falls in one-run contest
August 30, 2016

FRISCO, TEXAS (August 30, 2016) - Texas Rangers pitcher Colby Lewis made his second Major League rehabilitation start with the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Rangers, who lost to the Corpus Christi Hooks 6-5 Tuesday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

Lewis allowed five runs on eight hits with one walk and two strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings of work. It was his second appearance with the Riders (60-72 overall, 22-41 second half) after being placed on the disabled list June 25 with a strained right latissimus dorsi muscle. Lewis threw 60 pitches, 41 strikes, and took no decision.

After Lewis exited the game, Jefri Hernandez struck out the final two batters of the fourth inning, and Ariel Jurado (1-3) pitched the final five innings. Jurado did not surrender a run until the ninth inning, when he gave up a go-ahead, two-out RBI single to Nick Tanielu that put Corpus Christi (81-53, 34-30) in front 6-5.

The Riders, despite leading 3-1 early in the game, fell behind 5-3 after four innings. Frisco tied the game with two runs in the seventh, courtesy of an Andy Ibanez RBI double and a sacrifice fly from Luis Marte. The Riders left Ibanez on third in the seventh, one of nine men left on in the defeat.

Right fielder Eduard Pinto went 4-for-4 and was hit by a pitch Tuesday, bouncing back from a 1-for-25 road trip in a resounding way. Ibanez and Carson Blair each drove in two runs.

The Riders continue the four-game series Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Righty Scott Carroll (1-1, 3.71 ERA) is scheduled to make the start for the Riders against Trent Thornton (2-1, 2.37 ERA). Fans can watch on MiLB.tv (subscription required) or listen to the action live on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App. Live coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. with the Dr Pepper Pregame Show.
