Big Fly Bonanza Leads Indians Past Hops

Indians flex their muscles with three home runs in 8-0 win
August 31, 2016

Spokane, WA - Seth Spivey stayed well past midnight taking batting practice at the ballpark last night. It paid off in a big way today. Spokane's catcher connected on a three-run blast as part of a five-run sixth inning as the Indians shut out the Hops 8-0 in front of 4,021 fans at Avista Stadium for Home Runs for Hope Night presented by Goodwill Industries and 103.1 KCDA.

Spivey's circuit clout was one of three on the night as the Indians continued to exact revenge against the Hops after getting swept in Hillsboro last week. Anderson Tejeda got the ding dong party started with a round tripper to dead-center - his third in three games - against starter Tyler Mark (5-5) in the first inning. After Spivey greeted Hillsboro reliever Colin Poche with his four-bagger in the sixth, Chad Smith capped off the tater troika in the eighth inning with a majestic two-run moon shot deep into the Spokane night.

Eight runs would prove to be more than enough with Sal Mendez (6-4) delivering one of his best outings of the season. Spokane's southpaw kept the Hops off balance all night with a deadly changeup as he allowed just four hits in seven scoreless innings. Steven Bruce kept Hillsboro off the board for the final two frames as the Indians completed their fourth shutout of the season.

Spivey finished 2-for-4 with three RBI while Smith and Luis Terrero each picked up a pair of hits in the win. The victory improved Spokane to 11-21 in the second half and 30-40 overall.

Tomorrow is Grand Slam F-150 Sweepstakes presented by Gus Johnson Ford, KIX 96.1, and Family Guide.
