LAST GAME
Max Ramirez capped a five-run fifth-inning with a three-run double to left-center as the RedHawks posted a 7-5 victory in the series opener. The teams traded runs in the sixth and eighth innings before the Express rallied in the ninth. Esteban German’s RBI double put the potential tying runs at second and third with no outs. However, Oklahoma City’s Ross Wolf struck out Chris Davis, surrendered a Chad Tracy sacrifice fly and got Brad Nelson to ground out, ending the game.

EXPRESS MAINTAIN DIVISION LEAD
Round Rock (30-22, .577) maintained a game-and-a-half lead over Albuquerque (28-23, .549) and New Orleans (29-24, .547) in the PCL American Southern Division despite yesterday’s loss. Albuquerque lost 10-4 at Memphis, while New Orleans lost 15-10 at Omaha. Oklahoma City (22-23, .442) is seven games back. Round Rock has held the division lead since April 16 and outright since May 2. The American Southern Division is the league’s only division with three teams above .500.

HOME-RUN STREAK ENDS
Round Rock snapped a 12-game streak with at least one home run last night. The Express homered 20 times during the streak, all of which came at home. Round Rock has homered in 14 of its last 16 games, clubbing 27 home runs in that time. The fact that the streak ended at Oklahoma City is no surprise as the Express hit only two home runs in a four-game series at Bricktown Ballpark in mid-April, both of which were hit by Luis Cruz in the same game. Round Rock averages 0.33 homers per game (3 HR / 9 G) against Oklahoma City and 1.47 homers per game (63 HR / 43 G) against the rest of the league. The Express are second in the PCL with 66 home runs, trailing only Reno (72). Round Rock is 21-13 when hitting at least one home run and 15-6 when hitting at least two.

DAVIS RBI STREAK ALSO ENDS
Chris Davis failed to produce an RBI last night for the first time in a game with the Express this season, snapping a 12-game streak. He was close to continuing the streak in the fifth inning, but Julio Borbon was thrown out at home trying to score on Davis’ fly-out to center. He has homered in seven of 13 games with the Express, including a club-record tying three-homer game April 9 against Iowa. He has homered in five of eight games since being optioned back to Round Rock from the Rangers last week. Davis averages 1.8 RBI per game and 0.47 per at bat. He also averages one home run every 5.8 at bats. Davis owns a .331 batting average (240-for-726) in 191 career Triple-A games, producing 39 home runs and 165 RBI. He hit 10 home runs in 31 games with Oklahoma City in 2008, six in 44 games in 2009 and 14 in 103 games last season.

STARTERS NOT MUCH OF A FACTOR
Express starters are 2-4 with 12 no-decisions and a 5.50 ERA (56 ER / 91.2 IP) since Derek Hankins’ win May 12 at Tucson. Opponents are hitting .312 off Express starters in that time. In fact, Round Rock has not gotten wins by starters in consecutive games only twice since May 1 – Hankins and Seth McClung (May 2-3); McClung and Tommy Hunter (May 8-9).

BIG-INNING THEORY
Round Rock is 9-3 this season when scoring at least four runs in an inning and 21-18 when failing to do such. However, the difference in record is even more pronounced based upon what the opponent does. The Express are 29-12 when not allowing an inning of at least four runs but 1-9 when the opponent posts such an inning. The lone victory was May 11 at Tucson when the Padres scored four first-inning runs and the Express rallied for a 7-5 victory.

BORBON JOINS EXPRESS FOR REHAB
Texas Rangers outfielder Julio Borbon began a rehab assignment with the Express tonight. He has been on the disabled list since May 14 due to an inflamed left hamstring. Borbon is expected to be with Round Rock for at least six games. He began rehab work last night with Double-A Frisco last night, going 0-for-4 with one strikeout against Tulsa. Borbon was 2-for-4 with a walk, two stolen bases and two runs scored as the designated hitter in the leadoff spot for the Express last night.

COMEBACK KIDS
Round Rock has 17 comeback win this season (trailing at any point in the game). The Express has won seven times when trailing after five innings, four times when trailing after six innings and four times when trailing after seven innings. Sunday’s 9-8 victory against Iowa, which featured a three-run ninth, was the second time this season the Express trailed through eight innings and won.

CLOSE CALLS
Round Rock is 10-5 in one-run games; that .667 winning percentage is tied with New Orleans (14-7) for the third in the PCL behind only Sacramento (.733, 11-4) and Albuquerque (.722, 13-5). The Express started the season 7-1 in such games and then lost four straight before winning each of their last three one-run affairs. Nashville leads the PCL with 24 one-run games, going 9-15. Round Rock is 17-13 in games decided by two runs or fewer.

EXPRESS RESPONDERS
Round Rock’s opponent has scored first in 30 of 52 games this season. In 13 of those cases, the Express responded with at least one run in their next at bat, tying the game twice and claiming the lead six times. However, quickly responding has not guaranteed success. Round Rock is 14-16 when the opponent scores first and 5-8 when immediately answering with at least one run, meaning the Express are 9-8 when not immediately responding to the opponent’s first score of the game. Round Rock is 3-3 when allowing the opponent to score first and then immediately claiming the lead, 1-1 when immediately tying the game, and 1-4 when responding but still trailing.

FIVE IS THE KEY
Round Rock is 25-10 this season when scoring at least five runs. Only five times have the Express won when scoring fewer than five runs: April 12 vs. Omaha (3-2, 13 innings), April 13 vs. Omaha (2-0), April 18 at New Orleans (3-1), April 22 at Oklahoma City (2-1) and May 27 vs. Iowa (3-1). Round Rock has lost 10 of its last 11 when scoring fewer than five runs. Meanwhile, Round Rock is 19-5 when allowing fewer than five runs and 11-17 when allowing at least five runs.

EXPRESS AMONG TOP PCL TEAMS
Round Rock owns the PCL’s fourth-best record behind Sacramento (33-20, .623), Las Vegas (31-22, .585) and Reno (31-22, .585). Columbus (35-17, .673) of the International League owns the best Triple-A record. Three other teams are above .500 through Tuesday’s games – Omaha (29-23, .558), Albuquerque (28-23, .549) and New Orleans (29-24, .547). The Express are 10-6 against teams currently above .500 and 20-16 against the rest of the league.

STRONG START CONTINUES
The Express have posted the second-best 52-game start in the franchise’s Triple-A history (since 2005). The 2006 squad started 31-21 and lost its next game, the last of a five-game skid. No other Round Rock Triple-A team was above .500 through 52 games.

ROAD WARRIORS
Round Rock is 14-10 (.583) away from home, joining Sacramento (12-6, .667), Las Vegas (15-9, .625), Salt Lake (15-10, .600), Reno (17-12, .586), New Orleans (13-12, .520) and Omaha (14-13, .519) as the PCL’s only teams above .500 on the road. Salt Lake is the only team in that group below .500 at home, going 10-18 (.358).
