PawSox to Host 9/11 Blood Drive at McCoy Stadium
In partnership with the Rhode Island Blood Center, the PawSox will be hosting a blood drive at McCoy Stadium on September 11 from 9:00am-3:00pm in the Visitor's Clubhouse. Those who donate blood will receive a $5 gift card to Dunkin Donuts, along with a Mookie Betts PawSox jersey.
There are over 370,000 people in Rhode Island who are eligible to donate blood, but only about 5% of the population donates on a regular basis. The Rhode Island Blood Center counts on the community to help provide over 200 units of life-saving blood and blood products to Rhode Islanders and our neighbors on a daily basis.
"It's important to remember that after the tragic events of 9/11, the blood that went directly to those victims came from people who donate regularly," said Eric St. Peter, Account Manager/Public Relations Coordinator at the Rhode Island Blood Center. "We're thrilled to partner with the Pawtucket Red Sox to host this unique event at McCoy Stadium on the 15th anniversary of 9/11."
Donors and spectators alike are invited to experience the sights and sounds of McCoy Stadium on a Sunday afternoon - to take a stroll down the ballpark's hallowed hallway of history, or to walk on the field for a family photo. Other areas not normally available to the general public, like the visitors' clubhouse, will also be open for guests to visit.
"The PawSox are honored to host this blood drive, both to commemorate 9-11 and to help save the lives of members of our community," said PawSox President Dr. Charles Steinberg, "We love when the role of the PawSox transcends baseball and improves the quality of life in our city."
