Season Ticket Draft Takes Sharing Season Tickets To New Levels

June 2, 2011
For the seven educators who make up the Spotswood Season Ticket Holders, the annual Trenton Thunder Ticket Draft is a rite of spring and a reminder that baseball season is on the horizon.

For the last 14 years, members Graham Peabody, Ron Panico, Gary Hull, Dan Silvia, Bill Visokay, Jules Dekovics and Carl Buffalino have shared three full season tickets and one half season ticket at Waterfront Park.

The annual Ticket Draft to divide up the games is the unofficial start to the Thunder season. The group gathers with their families in March to enjoy plenty of food and beverages and go through the ritual of divying up the games.

The seven official members come to the draft prepared with personal draft boards that have been made after carefully analyzing the Thunder promotional schedule and their own family calendars. The group hops on a computer and log in to a custom built website that serves as an automated draft board. The program, built by Spotswood student Ryan Davis, tracks the games selected by each participant and even includes custom icons for each member.

"The Thunder are part of our lives," said Graham Peabody when asked about the ticket draft in a Thunder luxury suite during an April game. "Look around at all these kids (his eyes pan around the suite full of kids), and we're not going anywhere for a while."

On Opening Night each year, the group purchases the extra tickets needed so everyone can attend. Then the remaining 70 games are split via the draft, with each member receiving 10 games each.

This season the SSTH added a new dimension to the annual draft party. With the assistance of Boomer and Bobby Baseball, the group held a memorabilia auction that raised $725 for the Trenton Thunder Charities Tickets For Kids program.

So what game was the number one pick in this year's draft? The hottest ticket this season was Andy Pettitte Bobblehead night on July 15 against the Reading Phillies!
