Alvarez and Clark Named Barons' MVP's

BIRMINGHAM, AL -- The Birmingham Barons have announced their team MVP's, with shortstop Eddy Alvarez winning the Player of the Year award and southpaw Brian Clark securing Pitcher of the Year honors.

Alvarez, 26, hit .263 (104-for-395) in 104 games with Birmingham this season. The Miami native hit .420 (21-for-50) in 14 games during the month of August before being promoted to the AAA Charlotte Knights. Making his AAA debut, Alvarez is currently hitting .318 (7-for-22) with Charlotte. He continues to lead the Barons with 62 RBIs.

Clark, 23, has posted a 2.27 ERA in 31 games with Birmingham this season. The Ohio native has recorded four saves in six attempts this year, and allowed just 12 earned runs in 47.2 innings of work. The Kent State product will be one of five current Barons participating in the Arizona Fall League later this month.
