Everett's Filia named Northwest League MVP

Everett's Zammarelli, Brito join Filia as end-of-season All-Stars

EVERETT, Wash. - Today, Everett AquaSox outfielder Eric Filia added another accolade to his collection this season when he was named the Northwest League's Most Valuable Player for the 2016 season. Along with Eric Filia, AquaSox third baseman Nick Zammarelli and first baseman Kristian Brito were named Year-End All-Stars.

Filia was named a Mid-Season NWL All-Star, and was a huge contributor for the AquaSox on their way to clinching a post-season berth. Filia led the league in hitting with a mark of .362. He finished first in RBIs (46), on-base percentage with a mark of .450, hits (89), total bases (122), and second in slugging percentage with a score of .496.

Zammarelli was an eighth round pick in the 2016 MLB Draft by the Mariners. He hit .327 this season, tied for the second best mark in the league, and was second in the league in hits with 82.

Brito was an eleventh round pick in the 2012 MLB Draft by the Mariners. He hit .299 this season, and was tied for first in the league in RBIs, collecting 46.

AquaSox General Manager Danny Tetzlaff said "It is very exciting to have Eric Filia as MVP this year. It is well-deserved, and it's remarkable to have back-to-back Northwest League MVPs come out of Everett. This just shows that the Mariners scouting and Minor League operations are doing a fantastic job and sending us phenomenal talent."

Filia joins Dave Nash (1986), Robert Zachmann (1996), Jamal Strong (2000), Ismael Castro (2002), Patrick Kivlehan (2012) and Drew Jackson (2015) as MVP winners in Everett.
