Taylor Jungmann recalled by Brewers from Biloxi
BILOXI, MS. - The Milwaukee Brewers announced on Tuesday that Biloxi RHP Taylor Jungmann had been recalled from the Biloxi roster. Jungmann and the Shuckers concluded the 2016 season on Monday and the 26-year-old rejoins the Brewers and is active for tonight's game against the Chicago Cubs at Miller Park.
Jungmann was joined by former Shucker RHP Damien Magnifico as well as Colorado Springs catcher Andrew Susac as Milwaukee's call-ups on Tuesday.
Jungmann made 13 starts for the Shuckers going 3-4 with a 2.51 ERA over 75.1 innings. The former first round pick of the Brewers struck out 81 and walked 35, posting six quality starts. Over his final eight starts since July 27, Jungmann went 3-2 with a 1.60 ERA with 51 strikeouts and 23 walks over 50.2 innings. He also held opponents to a .188 batting average.
He was named Southern League Pitcher of the Week for Aug. 22-28 after tossing eight shutout innings against the Mississippi Braves on Aug. 23, allowing only three hits and striking out eight. The native of Temple, Texas and former Texas Longhorn fired 85 pitches, 62 for strikes in the outing.
Jungmann went 0-4 with a 9.15 ERA in five starts for the Brewers before being optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs on April 29. He posted a 9.87 ERA in eight starts with the SkySox. As a rookie in 2015, he went 9-8 with a 3.77 ERA in 21 starts at the Major League level for Milwaukee, including being named the clubs Pitcher of the Month in August.
With the addition of Jungmann, the Brewers current roster features six players that have called Biloxi home in the first two seasons. Pitchers include: RHP Jacob Barnes, Jungmann, Magnifico and LHP Brent Suter. They are joined by infielders Orlando Arcia and Yadiel Rivera.
The Shuckers finished the 2016 season with a 72-67 record after Monday's 4-1 win over the Mississippi Braves in Pearl.
