Zimmer's Grand Slam Powers Clippers Back Into Series
Same spot as last night, different result for the home team.
Deadlocked in a 2-2 ball game heading into the latter innings, Cleveland Indians top prospect and Clippers center fielder Bradley Zimmer launched a grand slam into the Wendy's Hamburger Balcony in right field, giving Columbus a series tying 6-4 win over Gwinnett in front of a crowd of 8,835 at Huntington Park on Thursday night.
Columbus designated hitter Michael Choice flied out to the warning track in left center field with the bases loaded and one out in the first inning, bringing home Yandy Diaz from third for the first run of the game.
Indians catcher Yan Gomes, on his second night of rehab work for the Clippers, launched a solo shot over the wall in left field to put Columbus up 2-0 in the third.
Gwinnett would tie the game in the fourth via RBI singles from left fielder Tyler Moore and shortstop Daniel Castro before Zimmer's eventual game winner in the seventh.
Jeff Johnson (1-0) picked up the win in relief for Columbus while Rob Wooten (0-1) suffered the loss for the G-Braves.
Josh Martin locked down the save for the Clippers in shutting the door on Gwinnett.
The Clippers and Braves will now head down to Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, Ga., for the remainder of their series. First pitch tomorrow is set for 7:05 p.m. Southpaw Shawn Morimando is slated to throw for Columbus against righty Chris Ellis.
