Gary Sanchez Named to MLB Pipeline Team of the Year
Moosic, Pa. - A breakout 2016 by Gary Sanchez has netted the catcher another year-end superlative. The MLBPipeline.com staff selected Sanchez to their Team of the Year. He appeared in 71 games for the SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/ New York Yankees) this summer.
Sanchez has already earned two American League Player of the Week nods since his early August call-up, the first Yankees rookie to do so. He was named the AL Player of the Month for August after hitting .389 with 11 homers and 21 RBI. He was named the starting catcher for the International League in the Triple-A All-Star in Charlotte.
The 23-year-old hit .282 in 71 games with the RailRiders, launching 21 doubles and 10 home runs while driving in 51. He stole seven bases in eight attempts.
The RailRiders will host Game Three of the International League Division Series on Friday, September 9 at 6:35 p.m. seeking a series-clinching victory. Right-hander Brady Lail (7-6, 5.07) will match up with right-hander Phil Klein (5-1, 1.52).
