Phillies call up Alfaro, Quinn from Double-A

Philadelphia's No. 4, No. 8 prospects prep to make big league debuts
September 11, 2016

Jorge Alfaro and Roman Quinn's team was eliminated from the Eastern League playoffs Saturday, but they woke up to better news Sunday.

The Phillies called up the club's No. 4 and No. 8 prospects, with Quinn making his way into Philadelphia's starting lineup against Washington.

Alfaro was first called up on Aug. 26, but did not play and returned to the Minors the next day. MLB.com's No. 61 overall prospect slugged 15 homers with 67 RBIs and hit .285 -- his best full-season average -- in 97 games as the starting catcher for Double-A Reading.

Quinn battled a hamstring injury, but still remained a force on the Fightin Phils roster. The center fielder tallied six homers -- including three in the final week of the regular season -- with 25 RBIs and a .302 average in 77 games that also included six rehab contests in the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League.

In four playoff games, Alfaro collected six hits, two homers and five RBIs while Quinn contributed five hits, five runs and a pair of RBIs as Reading lost to Trenton in the Eastern League semifinals.
